A freestanding basin is a single ceramic piece standing on the floor, bowl and base made as one. We have six: the Blyth 60cm in white; the Debenham freestanding basin with a floor or wall outlet; the Waveney Lantern; the Waveney Cask, also made with a floor outlet; and the Waveney Orwell in finishes named Carrara White, Marquinia Black, Alpi Green, Siena Yellow and Sodalite Lapis Lazuli.

Choosing a freestanding basin

A freestanding basin is an object in the room, so it needs space round it. It works best in a principal bathroom or a dressing room, less well in a tight en suite. The Debenham basin belongs with the 1920s and 1930s Debenham collection. Blyth is plain and compact. The Lantern and Cask are part of our Waveney gallery collection, offered in a long list of glazes including gold and platinum combinations, and can be fitted with matching lighting kits switched by foot switch or remote control.

Plumbing a freestanding basin

The supplies and waste come up inside or behind the basin, so they have to be fixed before the floor is finished. A floor outlet means running the waste under the floor: in a timber floor, check the joist direction and the fall; on a concrete slab, plan it before the screed goes down. A wall outlet is usually simpler on an upper floor.

The tap will be on the wall or freestanding beside the basin, so decide it at the same time. Taps and mixers are listed separately, and our design service will draw the set-out and check the falls for you.
