Finding us

Mickfield is a village in mid Suffolk, near Stowmarket. It is reached from the A140, the road between Ipswich and Norwich, and from the A14 at Stowmarket. For satellite navigation use the postcode IP14 5LS. If you are coming from further afield, ring us on 01449 711782 before you set off and we will talk you through the last part of the route.

What you can see

We keep pieces from both families of collections in the showroom. [CHECK: confirm which pieces are on display] From the period collections you can look at basins on ceramic pedestals and washstands in the style of an early twentieth-century or 1930s bathroom. From the contemporary collections you can compare wall-hung and back-to-wall pieces and vessel basins. Not every piece in the range is out at once, which is one reason to call ahead.

Glazes are the main reason most people visit. Matt black, green, hazel, grey, burgundy and brown each look different in daylight, under warm lamps and next to tiles, and a sample in the hand tells you more than a photograph can. Brassware finishes in chrome, gold and bronze are easier to compare side by side, and it is worth seeing how a gold tap sits against a coloured basin before committing to it.

Seeing pieces at full size also settles practical questions. You can stand at a basin to judge its height, sit on a WC to compare pan heights and projections, and see how much floor a freestanding bath really takes up compared with the line on a plan.

We can also talk through made furniture from our joinery workshop, which makes vanity units, cabinets and panelling to measure for the room they are going in.

Bring plans and photographs

A visit is most useful when you bring the room with you. Plans, architect’s drawings and rough measurements all help, and so do photographs of the existing bathroom. Pictures of the soil pipe, the boiler or hot water cylinder, and the floor tell us a good deal about what the room can take. With those we can start on a layout and point out early where a choice will be limited by the pipe runs, the water pressure or the floor.

If you want the room drawn properly, our bathroom design service starts with a survey and ends with a schedule of every item.
