A urinal in a private house usually goes in a cloakroom off a games room, a boot room or a pool house, where it saves wear on the WC. We list five: the Thornham wall-hung urinal and the Thornham tower urinal, in white, glossy black and matt glazes; the Blyth wall-hung and back-to-wall urinals in white; and the Waveney channel urinal.

Choosing a urinal

The Thornham pieces belong in a period room and match Thornham basins and WCs. The tower urinal is the larger of the two, while the wall-hung version leaves the floor clear. Blyth is plain and compact, and its back-to-wall version hides the pipework. The Waveney channel urinal is a gallery piece fed by its own spout, listed under taps and mixers.

Flushing and plumbing

Every urinal needs a flush control, which is ordered separately. Thornham has its own flush mechanism with sensor or push-button operation, and general sensor and push-button flushes are listed under fittings and wastes. A sensor flush needs a power supply, which in a bathroom must suit the electrical zone and be installed by a qualified electrician.

Before you order

Check the waste position and the trap, and whether the wall can carry a wall-hung piece. The water fittings regulations also control how a urinal is flushed, so let your plumber confirm the arrangement. See the Thornham collection for matching pieces.
