A vessel basin sits on top of a worktop, washstand or vanity unit, so the whole bowl is on show. We have fourteen, from the 30cm Brett round to the 70cm Dove and Linnet. Most are offered in white, an easy-clean white and matt glazes including black, grey, burgundy, hazel, brown, iron and green.

Choosing a countertop basin

Start with height. A vessel basin adds its own depth to the counter, so the counter or washstand is usually set lower than for an inset basin. Work out the finished rim height, not the counter height. Then choose the tap: a vessel basin needs a tall mono mixer, such as the Orwell high basin mono mixer, or a wall-mounted spout. The Stour versions with a tap ledge carry the mixer on the basin itself.

The shapes vary a good deal. Brett has round and square bowls at 30cm and 40cm, with ceramic pedestals for the 30cm size. Ore is made in a wide range of gloss and matt glazes, with a lower version, Ore Low. Dove has a square bowl and a 70cm form. Linnet comes at 43cm, 56cm and 70cm, and Orwell at 60cm and as a 40cm circular bowl. The Debenham vessel basin suits a period room.

Before you order

Check on the specification sheet whether the basin has an overflow, and choose the waste to match: a basin without one needs a free-flow or click-clack waste with no overflow slot. Basin wastes are listed separately. Allow room behind the bowl for the tap. Our joinery workshop can make the vanity or washstand to the height you need, and the Ore collection shows the full glaze range.
