Our basins are Italian-made ceramic, in sizes from the 35cm Alde round for a cloakroom to the 150cm Thornham double for a main bathroom. Most come in white and a set of matt glazes, and many are offered with one or three tap holes. The quickest way to narrow the choice is to settle the fixing first, then the width, then the glaze.

How to choose a bathroom basin

A wall-hung basin leaves the floor clear and needs a wall that can carry it. A vessel or countertop basin sits on a worktop or washstand and needs a tall mixer or a wall spout. A freestanding basin stands on the floor, with the waste brought up through the floor or the wall behind. Semi-recessed, inset, undercounter, corner and console basins each answer a particular room or piece of furniture.

Width follows the use. A basin of 35 to 50cm is enough for washing hands in a cloakroom. A main bathroom usually takes 60 to 80cm. At 120cm and above, a double such as the Thornham 150cm or the Alde 140cm gives two people room at the same time.

Period and contemporary basins

The period ranges, Framsden, Thornham, Debenham and Cretingham, have rounded bowls and sit on pedestals, ceramic legs or metal washstands. The contemporary basins come from Orwell, Stour, Alde, Deben and Lark, with vessel bowls from Ore, Dove, Linnet and Brett.

Before you order

Decide the tap before the basin, because the tap-hole option has to match. Check the outlet position and whether the basin has an overflow, as that decides the waste. Taps and wastes are listed separately under fittings and wastes, and our design service will check the pipe runs and wall construction and give you a schedule of every item.
