Bathroom fitting is where most bathrooms go wrong, and finding a good fitter is often harder than choosing the basin. We fit the bathrooms we sell with our own fitters, so the people who planned the room are the people who build it. You deal with one company from the first drawing to the last bead of silicone.

Bathroom fitting by Bathurst & Co: a freestanding bath fitted in a period bathroom

Why we fit our own bathrooms

A bathroom bought from one firm and fitted by another leaves a gap between them. If a waste does not line up, a cistern needs a different frame or a basin sits too high, each side can blame the other. When we supply and fit, that gap does not exist. Our fitters work to the drawing our design service produced, with the products we ordered for that room, and we answer for the finished result.

How a fitted bathroom runs

  1. Survey. We measure the room, look at the pipework, the floor and the walls, and note anything that will affect the layout, such as soil stack position or a sloping ceiling.
  2. Design. Our design service draws the room and schedules every item, down to wastes, traps and concealed frames.
  3. Quotation. You receive a written price for supply and fitting, with what is and is not included set out line by line.
  4. Ordering and dates. Once you accept, we order the products and book the fitting. Fitting dates are usually around three months ahead, which also covers the lead time on most of our ranges.
  5. Fitting. A typical bathroom takes our fitters about two weeks on site. Larger rooms, structural changes or made-to-measure furniture take longer, and we tell you that at quotation.
  6. Handover. We test everything, show you how it works and leave care notes for each finish. Our care guide covers the same ground.

Furniture made to fit the room

Where a room needs a vanity unit, cabinet or panelling that no catalogue piece will fit, it is drawn and made in our own joinery workshop at Mickfield and fitted by the same team. That is how an awkward alcove, a sloping wall or a chimney breast ends up looking intended rather than worked around. You can read more on our workshop page.

Regulations and safety

Bathroom work touches several parts of the Building Regulations. Sanitary fittings and hot water safety fall under Approved Document G, extractor fans under Part F, and lights, heated towel rails and shaver points under Part P, which means electrical work in a bathroom must be done or certified by a registered electrician. Anything connected to the mains water supply should carry WaterRegsUK approval. We plan the room with these in mind from the survey onwards.

Supply only, if you have your own fitter

If you already have a plumber you trust, we are happy to supply only. We will send drawings and fitting notes for each piece, and our delivery page explains how heavy items arrive. Please wait until everything has arrived and been checked before you book your fitter.
