A close-coupled toilet has the cistern sitting directly on the back of the pan, with no frame, boxing or flush pipe. It is the simplest WC to fit and the easiest to service. We list four collections: Framsden and Thornham for a period room, Stour and Deben for a contemporary one. Each is sold as a complete toilet, or as pan and cistern separately.

Choosing a close-coupled toilet

Framsden and Thornham come in white, gloss black, matt black, matt hazel and matt green, and the complete toilets are offered with a flush button in chrome, gold or bronze to match the taps. Stour has squared edges and comes in white, an easy-clean white and a wide range of matt glazes. Deben is the plainest of the four.

Close-coupled toilets suit a room being refitted without opening walls, or a house where the soil pipe already rises through the floor. Because the cistern is on show, the toilet reads as a single piece of ceramic.

Before you order

Check the outlet and the set-out. Measure from the finished wall to the centre of the soil pipe, and confirm whether you need a floor or wall connection. If you buy pan and cistern separately, order both from the same collection so they couple. Seats are sold separately; see toilet seats.
