A back-to-wall toilet stands on the floor with its back tight to the wall, and the cistern is concealed behind it in a vanity run or a boxed-out wall. You get a clean outline without the structural work of a wall-hung frame. We list ten, from the period Framsden and Thornham collections and the contemporary Orwell, Stour, Deben and Blyth.

Choosing a back-to-wall toilet

Projection matters most in a small room. Deben has the widest choice, with back-to-wall pans at 48cm, 53cm, 55cm and 56cm, so you can fit the pan to the space between the wall and the door. The Deben 56cm is also made with a bidet function. Orwell offers a standard pan and a quiet-flush pan, both in white, easy-clean white and a range of matt glazes. Stour has squared edges to match its basins and bidets. Framsden and Thornham suit a period room where a wall-hung pan would look out of place.

A matching back-to-wall bidet is available in most of these collections.

Before you order

The concealed cistern, its frame or bracket, and the flush plate are specified separately; see cisterns. Whatever hides the cistern must have an access panel so the valve can be serviced. Our joinery workshop can make the furniture to box it in, and the design service will check the soil pipe position and wall build-up.

Seats are sold separately and are made for each pan; see toilet seats.

WCs, basins and baths are covered by the sanitation and hot water rules in Approved Document G. Call 01449 711782 if you would like us to check a piece against your plans.
